"It is not about scoring an 'A; on a test, or as a school, it is about work ethic, kindness, respect, your ability to help others, and a never-say-quit attitude, when you have these traits in place all other things fall into place," summarizes Rick Espinoza, superintendent of Carrizozo Schools. Espinoza was speaking to the Carrizozo High School students and staff who had gathered to meet secretary designate of the New Mexico Public Education Department Christopher Ruszkowski. Ruszkowski visited Carrizozo as part of the New Mexico True Straight A tour congratulating the top 10 percent of schools in the Land of Enchantment. Mr. Espinoza stated that "He is truly proud of his students, staff and faculty as well as the community for the work all put into making Carrizozo Schools among the best schools in the State of New Mexico."

Grizzly Happenings

Dear Parents/Guardians and Community Members,


We have the following announcements and activities for the week of Dec. 11th:

Thursday, Dec. 14th: 4:30 V boys vs. Capitan @ Mescalero Tournament

**Santa Helpers forms are available in the High School Office.  


**Bruce Bean from Herff Jones will be here to deliver class rings on Monday, December 18th @ 2:00.  If you have a balance due, contact Margie.


**Student Council and A'viands are holding a Food Drive for the Holiday season.  There will be collection boxes located in each classroom.  The classroom to collect the most nonperishable food items will receive a sundae and pizza party.  All food items need to be brought in by December 20th. 


**Student Council is selling Candy Cane Reindeer and Holiday Candy Grams through December 19th for $1.00 each.  See a Student Council member to order your grams.  These will be delivered on December 20th to Middle and High School students and distributed December 21st to K-6 at their holiday parties.


**Next week is finals week, school will be dismissed early on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.


**Justin Barela,the son of Chris Barela and Katie McDonald, is still in the hospital in El Paso and will be there for an undetermined amount of time.  An account has been set up at Wells Fargo to help the family with travel, lodging and meals.


**Melanie Zamora, a certified facilitator through the One Circle Foundation, would like to start a Girls Circle. It is a structured support group for girls ages 9-18, it's a confidential weekly/bi weekly group for the adolescent girls in our community. Any girls interested, come by the high school office or call 575-937-8359. The meetings would be from 4:30-5:30 on Wednesdays, starting in January.  She has been a facilitator for the Girls Circle in Ruidoso for 2 years and certified for 4 years. She is interested in starting one in Carrizozo. Here is the link to the foundation,


**Carrizozo Schools continues to collect Box Tops, so if you use products that have Box Tops, clip them and send them to school with your child/children or drop them by the high school office.


**The application for free or reduced meals is available in the high school office.  Students in grades K-8 are still eligible for free meals.  Students in 9-12 will have to purchase meals, unless your family qualifies for free or reduced meals.  The cost is $1.35 for breakfast and $2.75 for lunch for students. 


**Our phones are working intermittently, we are continuing to work on the problem.


**Food 4 Kids application and parent letter are available in the high school office.


**Carrizozo Schools is offering students and their families a T-Mobile Unit for wi-fi accessibility at a reasonable cost.  The user agrees to use this equipment for either school use in which all school technology use rules apply or individual use in which all applicable school, state and federal laws apply. Any misuses of this technology will result in the termination of the users right to use unit without refund of payment.  If you have questions or would like to lease the equipment for use of wi-fi at your home, please come by the high school office. The cost of the lease is $130 per year and there is no refund if turned in early.   The form is attached.  For questions, call Mr. Espinoza at 575-648-2346
